the recap

Principia vs Hazelwood West (Jan. 19th, 2026)

The 3rd of Monday’s girls varsity matchups at the 2nd Annual MLK Classic Shootout was controlled from start to finish, with Principia (81) setting the tone early through pace, pressure, and consistent scoring. Hazelwood West (40) continued to compete and showed resilience despite the gap, fighting through possessions and staying engaged until the final buzzer.

Coach Josh Spuhl (Principia) on what worked well for his team: “I think we had some really good spurts. I love seeing hitting some back to back threes, those are the things we gotta build off of and it gives you energy, so I was really happy with that. I thought Dasia had a great game with 20 and 12, and I thought the kids played well.”

Coach Damien Rogers (Hazelwood West) on what impacted his team’s performance and what will be their future focus: “[We] started off rough, not hitting shots… [Our focus is] getting better. Getting them back in the gym, working on offense, building confidence– you know, most of it’s confidence… Keep continuing to build that confidence…, continue to build them up as a team.”
